About Metabolic Guide

We test, research, and review metabolic health tools so you don't have to.

Our mission is simple: help everyday people understand their own metabolism and make genuinely informed decisions about health and weight loss — without the medical jargon, without the sales pressure, and without the filler content that clutters most health sites.

Our Story

Metabolic Guide was founded in 2024 by Jordan Lee and Alex Rivera — a certified nutritionist and a wearable-tech specialist who met at a metabolic health conference and quickly realized they were frustrated by the same thing: shallow, affiliate-driven reviews that told you a device "might help with weight loss" without ever explaining the science or showing real usage data.

Jordan had spent years writing for major health publications and was tired of editors cutting out the nuance. Alex had spent years coaching endurance athletes through metabolic testing and was tired of seeing consumers overpay for devices they didn't understand. Together, they decided to build the resource they both wished existed.

The rule from day one: no device gets a recommendation until at least one team member has used it for a minimum of four consecutive weeks and reviewed the underlying science. We track biomarkers. We compare outputs against validated lab tests. We talk to the people who actually build these devices. And we keep the writing honest — if something doesn't work the way it's marketed, we say so.

Today, Metabolic Guide is a reference destination for anyone navigating the growing world of metabolic tracking. Our readers range from elite athletes monitoring fat-burning zones to everyday people who just want to understand why they're gaining weight despite eating well. We write for both.

Meet the Team

Every article on Metabolic Guide is produced, reviewed, or fact-checked by one of the following people. We don't outsource content creation, and we don't publish anything that hasn't been through our editorial review process.

Jordan Lee

Lead Health Writer & Editor-in-Chief

Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) · B.S. Nutritional Science, UC Davis · 8+ years in health publishing

Jordan specializes in the intersection of metabolic science and practical nutrition. She has personally tested more than 30 wearable health devices — including every major RQ-based metabolism tracker currently on the market — and has contributed feature articles to Healthline, Everyday Health, and several peer-reviewed health blogs. Jordan believes strongly that personal health data should be accessible and interpretable by anyone, not just clinicians. She built Metabolic Guide to close that gap.

Alex Rivera

Wearable Tech Reviewer & Data Analyst

M.S. Exercise Physiology, University of Texas · CSCS (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist) · Former professional triathlete

Alex brings an athlete's perspective to metabolic technology. During his professional triathlon career, he worked extensively with sports scientists to optimize his fat-burning zones using metabolic carts and RQ measurement — the same technology now miniaturized in devices like Lumen. After retiring from competition, he transitioned to coaching elite athletes and eventually to translating complex metabolic science for general audiences. Alex handles all hardware reviews and raw data analysis on the site.

Dr. Sarah Chen

Medical Advisor & Fact-Checker

M.D., Johns Hopkins School of Medicine · Board-Certified Internal Medicine · Specialization: Metabolic Health & Endocrinology

Dr. Chen reviews all medically significant content on Metabolic Guide before publication to ensure clinical accuracy. She practices integrative medicine with a focus on metabolic health, insulin sensitivity, and preventive endocrinology. Dr. Chen is an advocate for evidence-based approaches to weight management and believes consumer-grade metabolic tracking tools — when used correctly — have genuine potential to shift the trajectory of preventive healthcare. She does not write editorial content but is the final sign-off on any claim involving clinical outcomes.

Our Editorial Process

Every piece of content published on Metabolic Guide goes through the same five-step pipeline, regardless of whether it's a product review, a science explainer, or a comparison article.

Research

Before writing a single word, we review peer-reviewed literature relevant to the topic. For device reviews, this means reading published validation studies. For science articles, this means sourcing primary research from PubMed, NCBI, and other indexed databases. We do not rely on brand-provided studies without cross-referencing against independent research.

Testing

Every device reviewed on this site has been used by at least one team member for a minimum of four consecutive weeks. Testing involves daily use under real-world conditions — variable diet, variable exercise, variable sleep — and comparison of device outputs against reference measurements where feasible. We document our testing methodology in each review.

Expert Review

Every article containing clinical claims, health outcomes data, or medical recommendations is reviewed by Dr. Sarah Chen before publication. Her role is purely editorial — she corrects factual errors, flags unsupported claims, and ensures the content meets the standards she would hold her own medical writing to. Articles are not published until she approves them.

Transparency

Any article that contains affiliate links includes a disclosure banner at the top. Any article in which we received a review unit from a brand notes that explicitly. We do not accept payment for positive reviews. We do not allow brand representatives to review content before publication. Our editorial opinions are not for sale.

Updates

Metabolic science evolves, and device firmware changes. We schedule a review of every article at least every six months to verify that facts, prices, and recommendations remain current. When we update an article substantially, we update the "Last Updated" date in the article metadata and note what changed. Outdated content is either updated or unpublished.
